A rainbow of “kale babies”

Yesterday was a pretty exciting day here at Healthy Way to Cook headquarters. We were lucky enough to receive a personal delivery of samples from Kevin of New York Naturals, the wonderful Brooklyn company owned by The Kale Factory that makes the Spirulina Crunch Greenola we reviewed. We were beyond thrilled to receive each flavor of New York Naturals kale chips and Greenola to try and develop recipes with.

Kevin informed us that New York Naturals will be introducing some new flavors within the next couple of months, but their current line includes Bombay Ranch, Spicy Miso, Sea Salt & Vinegar, Vegan “Cheese” and Coconut Cacao kale chips, and  Spirulina Crunch and Cranberry Nut Crunch Greenola. Each of their delicious raw products is made with dehydrated kale and flavored with high quality all-natural ingredients. Our Blog Buddies in the office with us, who were also ridiculously excited about the kale chips, weighed in with their favorites:

“Won’t lie…I am totally on the kale bandwagon especially when it comes in crispy, chip-like form. As a self-proclaimed kale connoisseur I really like how New York Naturals Kale Chips have FULL LEAFS of kale. I want to know their secret for keeping the fragile leafs together. Most kale chips I know of become instant crumbs and you have to spoon them into your mouth. I also love the large variety of flavors they have although the salt and vinegar definitely wins the race. Most importantly, the serving size is perfect for guilt-free snacking. You can easily eat an entire container of the delicious chips, but at least you won’t break the calorie bank with these. These kale chips automatically get the “no sharing” sticker in my house…I want them all to myself!” -Talia, Bite Size Wellness

“The Cranberry Nut Crunch flavor is my favorite, mostly because I was so surprised that a mix of kale, fruit and nuts wasn’t gross but actually delicious. I could see myself eating it for breakfast (which I just did) or as a replacement for the sweets I usually find myself craving halfway through the day. I was also surprised that there wasn’t a flavor that I didn’t like – even the one with spirulina, and I usually steer clear of anything that lists an algae as an ingredient.” -Steven, Travel Freak

“The Bombay Ranch kale chips are honestly one of the best snacky things I’ve eaten in forever. They’re salty, tangy, and a little bit spicy? This flavor is by far my favorite out of the ones we’ve tried–definitely more of a winner for me than the greenola! I can definitely see buying a package (or twelve) of these down the line!” -Kristin, Haute Talk

“Overall I really liked the texture. They’re really crispy without being crunchy. As far as flavors go, I loved the Bombay Ranch and the Coconut Cacao. The Spicy Miso was a bit too spicy for me but had a nice kick to it. I also liked the Cranberry Nut Crunch and the Spirulina Crunch. The Sea Salt & Vinegar wasn’t really vinegar-y enough for me. I am now a kale chips fan!” -Brittney, Surviving College

“I’m putting my vote in for the Spicy Miso–which seems to have been spicy enough to scare off everyone else, so now I have it all to myself. It’s extremely spicy. In fact, I had to check to be sure it didn’t have any of my favorite snack-food chemicals. No, it’s as purely natural as everything else from the brand.” -JR, Celebrity Watchdog

Beginning next week, we’ll be posting recipes that use each of the five flavors of kale chips, and at the end of our “kale-a-palooza” we’ll be giving away the two Greenola flavors to one Healthy Way to Cook reader! Check back soon for giveaway details.
