Top Food Blogs to Follow in 2013

31 Flares 31 Flares ×

Every morning, the first thing we do here at Healthy Way to Cook is pull up our Google Reader and see what’s happening in the blog world. We love  reading the latest  foodie finds, fitness tips, and health news from all of our subscriptions. While we regularly follow blogs that cover a wide range of health topics like GreatistBite Size Wellness and WHOLEistically Fit, we’re always keeping our eye out for great recipe sites to get ideas and inspiration for our own test kitchen. To celebrate the start of 2013, we’ve compiled a list of some of the top food blogs that we think you should start following this year:

Leanne is an avid foodie and traveler from Rhode Island that posts fantastic healthy recipes, reviews of local restaurants and foodie travel adventures. We love her “healthified” dishes like spicy pumpkin mac & cheese and buffalo turkey meatballs, and we are beyond obsessed with the pictures she posts of her super-cute pug.

Cara features tons of special diet recipes like dairy-free, vegan and gluten-free, and all of them are made with whole, natural foods. In addition to great dishes of her own (like cider braised turkey & squash tacos and GF chocolate-dipped cranberry biscotti), she also features guest posts from a huge community of healthy living bloggers.

Between her recent recipes and her Christmas Cookie Exchange, you might think that all Kayle makes is desserts (which, by the way, we would have no problem with whatsoever). But she has an incredible repertoire of healthy comfort food–hello creamy chicken on biscuits–and other low-fat dishes that we love.

We love the warm, personal writing style Christine uses as she tells the story behind each of her lightened-up recipes. She’s a girl after our own hearts–always looking for healthier ways to make typically “unhealthy” comfort foods like shrimp primavera and Oreo cheesecake.

We discovered Kathy‘s blog when she started it this past summer and have watched it grow from a simple recipe site to a thriving food blog with entertaining tips, inspirations, and one of our favorite features, Wine on a Dime. Try her two-for-one detox salad recipes, or low-cal shrimp avocado soup!

Nami’s blog celebrates her rich heritage with easy-to-follow healthy Japanese recipes. We tried out her kale and potato soup, but one of our resolutions is to expand our culinary horizons, starting with her sesame cookies and miso sea bass.

Marina’s blog features simple, sometimes-secretly healthy recipes that your whole family will love, like vegetable lentil shepherd’s pie and vegan sugar cookies. She has an amazing DIY and home decorating section and has a cookbook coming out this year! Oh, and her two daughters that often appear in her posts are absolutely adorable. :)

  1. Love this round-up, especially because there’s a lot of blogs on here I haven’t heard of yet. I’m excited to go scope them out and try out some new recipes! One of my favorite food blogs is For the Love of Food. I love her focus on seasonal, whole foods and her food photography is to-die-for. :)
